Tortorella Pools - Fall 2014 Champions
Video high lights of the match found here. Hampton FC Dominates 1st Half
The two teams have played each other twice in the championship match with the outcome of each winning a match. During the regular season, Hampton FC defeated Tortorella Pools twice. The match had about 25 freezing spectators with the temperature in the low 40's a wind blowing and raining. The match would be 60 minutes long, with two halves 30 minutes halves. Hampton FC came out strong and would dominate the entire first half. Hampton FC had many on goal shots but Tortorella keeper, Alejandro Bolanos saved them all. Tortorella on the other hand, was always short on the offensive drives. It was one forward against several Hampton FC defenders. Looked like Tortorella was tired. The only question the spectators had was when Hampton FC would score. Hampton had a chance to score about 5 minutes into the match when Tortorella defender Cristian Munoz was called for a foul inside the goalie box with Gehider Garcia of Hampton FC taking the kick but kicked it into the center of the goal mouth to be saved by Bolanos. Gehider had another couple of chances when one of his shots hit the goal post, followed later with a header that went just wide of the cross bar when he was standing next to the goal. Hampton FC kept on attacking but no goals yet, they must have felt very frustrated without any goals having such an advantage. So at the 27 minute mark, with about three minutes left in the half, Tortorella has an attack going. Rodolfo Marin of Tortorella Pools, who plays defense, comes up and finds himself with the ball 17 yards out. Marin fires a blazing chest high ball into the far corner net to give his team the lead. A major let down for Hampton FC. Tortorella Pools Come From Behind Win
From the start of the second half, Hampton FC came out strong. Bolanos of Tortorella Pools made some incredible saves right in front of the goal. Bolanos could do so much but Hampton FC tied up the match at the 34th minute when Gehider Garcia crossed the ball to Jose Almansa on the far side. Almansa from about 13 yards blasts a chest high ball into the far side net. At the 35th minute, just a minute later, Hampton FC takes the lead when Gehider Garcia had the ball about 10 yards out to blast it into the net. Several minutes later, Tono Gonzalez of Hampton FC fires the ball into the net off a rebound on Bolanos within the goalie box. So in a time span of about ten minutes, Hampton FC scored three goals. It was looking bleak for Tortorella Pools being two goals down but on the Hampton FC side is was all cheers. Tortorella Pools had a little less then 20 minutes of match time left or it would be over for them. Tortorella had scored just seven goals during the entire season and the semi-final round and would you expect them to score at least two or three in less then 20 minutes to win the match? Few would, especially Hampton FC with time on their side. At this point Tortorella started to have a better attack. They now were the ones going hard for the ball and taking the shots. It did not take long for Tortorella to score. Daniel Salazar of Tortorella takes a direct kick by kicking it into the Hampton FC goal mouth. Hampton FC keeper, Olger Araya, was not able to handle the ball but Tortorella defender, Stiven Orrego was standing near by to hit the ball into the net. A big relief for Tortorella since now they were just a goal down. At about the 44 minute mark, Tortorella Pools was able to tie up the match. Cristian Gonzalez of Tortorella took a direct kick just outside the goalie box. The ball deflects off a Hampton FC defender in the wall to the side. Salazar of Tortorella gets the ball takes a small dribble and from about 17 yards blasts the ball into the far side net. Now with about 14 minutes left in the match, Tortorella kept on attacking with a better playing game plan. It was looking as if the match would end in a tie but the rain was coming down hard. So at the 56 minute mark, with about 4 minutes left, Gonzalez of Tortorella gets the ball near the Hampton FC goalie box. Gonzalez fires the ball into the net to give his team the lead again. It was all quiet on the Hampton FC side but as time was running out, Tortorella just kept on kicking the ball up the field to waste time. This was a great come from behind match as a roller coaster ride for both sides which gave Tortorella Pools the fall championship.
