Maidstone Market - Fall 2008 Champions
Jefferson Ramirez has a 'Hat Trick' This was the fall 2008 championship match. The match would be 60 minutes long with two thirty minute halves. Both sides were ready and at full strength. The match started late, 6:36pm with about 55 fans standing near the public restrooms and hoping it would not rain. From the start, Bateman came out strong with Carlos Torres hitting the ball wide right as Ivan Mesa of Maidstone came out to block the shot. Maidstone then had a chance to score when Renzo Rueda of Bateman took down David Cardona of Maidstone from a slide tackle from behind and received a yellow card for the act. Maidstone with a man up could not take advantage of the situation. The match was turning toward Maidstone and it was looking as if they would score. About 8 minutes into the match, Gehider Garcia passed the ball off to Jefferson Ramirez, standing about 2 yards from the goal post, who shot the ball into the net to give Maidstone the lead. Maidstone took a two goal lead at about 10 minutes into the match. This time Alex Posada, Bateman keeper, comes out to block a shot but David Cardona of Maidstone hits the ball to Gerber Garcia of Maidstone. Gerber heads the ball into the net to finish off Bateman. Then 18 minutes into the match, Maidstone scores again. This time Hector Marles of Maidstone had the ball about 13 yards from the goal and missed kicked the shot to Jefferson Ramirez. Ramirez standing about 4 yards from the goal blasted the ball into the net. It was looking bleak for Bateman but Luis Correa gave them a goal. About 21 minutes into the match, Luis Correa got the ball just inside the Maidstone half and started to dribble toward the opponents goal. As he was about 15 yards from the goal, Correa fired a shot just inside the far goal post past the on coming Maidstone keeper. Maidstone put the game away when a mix up happened just in front of the Bateman goal, 24 minutes into the match. Ramirez was able to get the loose ball that the Bateman defenders could not control. Ramirez fired the ball into the Bateman net to give Maidstone a 3 goal lead at the end of the half. Maidstone keeps on scoring. It was looking bleak for Bateman. Maidstone with a 3 goal lead had a 85% chance of winning. The game was more evenly played and at one point, three players received yellow cards at the same time but no goals were scored during this time. So 14 minutes into the second half, Ramirez had the ball and passed it off to Gehider Garcia, who was near the mid field line. Gehider started to dribble toward the Bateman goal and from about 15 yards out fired the ball just inside the far goal post. Ramirez could have scored his fourth goal when he had a one on one with Posada. Just in front of Posada, Ramirez pushed the ball a little wide and could not take a strong shot at the empty goal but hit it just wide of the net. At this point everyone knew who would win the match and at the 25 minute of the second half, Gehider Garcia is able to score again. Gehider had the ball and dribbled into the Bateman goal box and from about 3 yards out fired into the net to give Maidstone another championship trophy.
